What We Believe

bible icon.png

The Bible

We believe the Holy Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, as originally given by God, are divinely inspired, without error, entirely trustworthy, and constitute the only supreme authority in all matters of faith, teaching, and behaviour.

II Peter 1:21; Mark 12:26-36; II Timothy 3:16-17; Acts 1:16; Hebrews 4:12

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the eternal third Person of the Trinity – Who is now, throughout this Age of Grace, present in every believer to secure their salvation, to reveal to them the truths of Christ and to comfort, instruct and build them up in the faith. His ministry in the world is that of convicting it of sin, of the need of God’s righteousness and of judgment to come.

John 7:38-39; 14:16-17; 15:26; John 16:13-15; Acts 1:8, 2:1-4

The Trinity of the Godhead

We believe that the Godhead eternally exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections, and are worthy of precisely the same worship, confidence and obedience.

Genesis 1:26; 3:22; 11:6-8; John 1:1-4; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 5:3-4; Mark 12:29 Revelation 1:4-6; Hebrews 1:1-3

Humanity

We believe that God created the human race, in His image, to rule the earth and to enjoy fellowship with Him. Although originally perfect, the first man, Adam, sinned against his Creator in an act of rebellion and disobedience. As a result of his sin, the entire human race is dead in sin, alienated from God, condemned to spiritual and physical death, and helpless to establish reconciliation and peace with God.

Genesis 1: 26, 27, 2: 17; Isaiah 64: 6; Romans 5:12‑19; Jeremiah 17: 9; Ephesians 2: 1-3; Romans 3: 10-18; Romans 8: 6-8

Jesus Christ

We believe in the eternal deity of the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, in His incarnation and total humanity through the virgin birth by the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that all the Scriptures, from first to last, centre upon Him, His person and work; His sacrificial death upon the cross, His physical, bodily resurrection and His coming again.

Acts 26:22-23; John 5:39, 40; Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 24:44; Acts 17:2-3; 18:28; Isaiah 7:14; Acts 28:23

Salvation by Grace through Faith

We believe that sinners are saved by grace through faith alone so that man cannot boast and God alone is glorified. We reject any gospel that seeks to add works or merits as requirements in addition to faith alone, as a false gospel.

Acts 13:39; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 5:1; 3:25-26; Titus 3: 4-7; Rom 11: 6

Atonement of the Blood of Christ

We believe that our redemption has been accomplished solely by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, who bore our sins and died in our place, satisfying fully the wrath of God against us. We believe His sacrifice was fully acceptable to God and effectual for every sinner who receives Him.

Leviticus 17:11; Matthew 26:28; Ephesians 1:7; I Peter 1:18-19; II Corinthians 5:21; Romans 5:6-9; I Corinthians 15:3; Hebrews 10: 11, 12

Sanctification

We believe that every believer has been called to walk in a manner worthy of who we are in Christ so as to be holy even as God is holy. We believe that this process of sanctification is accomplished by the inner presence and work of the Holy Spirit in cooperation with the believer’s desire to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Ephesian 4:1; Galatians 5:16-25; I John 1:7-9; Romans 15:16; Ephesians 4:17-24

Regeneration of the Holy Spirit

We believe that, because sinners are dead in their sin and are therefore unable and unwilling to come to God, no one can believe in Jesus Christ or enter the kingdom of God unless enabled by God the Father and born of the Holy Spirit. At the moment of salvation the believer becomes a new creation, indwelt by the Holy Spirit and sealed unto the day of redemption.

John 3:5-8; I Corinthians 6: 11; Romans 8: 7-14; I Corinthians 3: 16; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 1:13, 14; 4: 30

The Church

We believe that the Church is the universal body of Christ whose Founder and Foundation is Christ, which is also His bride and into which all believers have been baptized. Believers are to assemble together for the purpose of worship, prayer, fellowship, and teaching as well as the observance of believers’ baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 5:25-32; Hebrews 10:25; Acts 2:41-47; Matthew 28:19, 20

Believer's Eternal Salvation

We believe in the eternal salvation of all who are born again by the Spirit of God through faith in Christ as revealed in the Scriptures, and that it is the privilege of all who believe to be assured of their present salvation and eternal life.

Baptism

We believe baptism is commanded for believers as a symbol and proclamation of their death to sin and resurrection to newness of life.  Further we believe and practice immersion as the mode of baptism in accordance with the word, examples, and symbolism found in scripture.

Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:38, 8:12 Romans 6:3

The Lord's Supper

We believe that Jesus commanded believers to regularly observe the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.  It is the commemoration and proclamation of His death until He comes again.

I Corinthians 11:23-27; Luke 22:19-20

Resurrection of the Body

We believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, according to the Scriptures, in bodily form, and thus became the Firstfruits of all who have died as believers in Him. We believe that, upon His return, He will raise up from the dead those that have died in Christ, this being the first resurrection; and that, after the thousand years, He will raise from the dead, all who have died in unbelief, to receive their sentence of eternal judgment.

John 6: 39, 40; Isaiah 26:19; John 5:28,29; I Corinthians 15: 50-53; Daniel 12:2; Romans 8:23; Revelation 20: 11-15

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit administers spiritual gifts to the church to glorify Christ in the building of His body.  We believe that God, the Holy Spirit, is sovereign in the giving of His gifts. The gifts of the Spirit are given for the mutual blessing and building up of believers in the body of Christ.

We believe that all spiritual gifts must be exercised within the limits expressly given in the Scriptures (e.g. I Corinthians 14:23-40).  We believe that the sign gifts were limited to the early church period and were given to authenticate God’s revelation through the apostles so as to affirm the truth upon which the church is built.  We believe that the purpose of these sign gifts no longer exists today. We also believe that special divine revelation for the giving of the Scriptures ceased with the Apostolic Age so that no new revelation has since been added or is being given today.

I Corinthians 12-14; Romans 12:3-8; I Peter 4:10, 11; Ephesians 4:11-13 Revelation 22:18-21

Satan

We believe that Satan is a person, the father of lies, a murderer from the beginning and the great deceiver of all nations; that he was defeated by Jesus Christ in His death on the cross. We believe that he will be cast into the Bottomless Pit for a thousand years, and finally committed to the Lake of Fire with all his angels to be tormented forever and ever.

John 8:44; John 12: 31, 32; II Corinthians 11:13-15; Revelation 12: 10

Jesus return.png

Pre- Millennial Coming of our Lord

We believe that this present age will end with the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, first to receive His Bride unto Himself in the Rapture of the Church. We believe in the subsequent Second Coming of our Lord in power to establish His physical kingdom upon the earth, reigning on the throne of David, establishing peace, righteousness and justice among all the nations for 1,000 years.

John 14:1-3; Psalm 72:7-8; Psalm 2; Acts 1:10-11; Titus 2:13; I Thessalonians 1: 9, 10; I Thessalonians 4:13-18

Eternity

We believe that the spiritual condition of everyone is fixed eternally at death, and that the saints of all the ages will be forever with the Lord and will become joint heirs with Him as their Redeemer in His inheritance.  We further believe that there is an appointed day for the judgment of the wicked when they will be cast into the Lake of Fire, there to remain forever and ever, in varying degrees of torment according to their works.
